now enclosed.

Note by Crown Agents on above.

The date figures used in the cheque dies that have

been supplied are much smaller than those in the sketch now

submitted. A rough of a die which will admit of two sets

of figures being inserted, as required, is forwarded, for

illustration only. The die proposed is also as large or

larger than the one objected to. No reply is given to

the Colonial Treasurer's enquiry respecting printing in

double or single fugitive ink. As the stamps will be

effectually cancelled by embossing, single fugitive ink

will allow of a greater variety of colours and wil) save

Crown Agents

Messre De La Rue & 00.

6th. September 1895.

With reference to your memo. of the 4th. inst., en-

closing sketch (herewith returned) for embossing die, we

are of opinion that, by the use of smaller date plugs, a

smaller die might be made that would answer the purpose,

and not take up so much space on the document.

Will you please submit another sketch (as per rough

pattern of die herewith) that we may forward the two

sketches to Mr Mitchell-Innes for his selection.

Will you also be good enough to report es to the use

of single fugitive ink for adhesive revenue stamps that

will be cancelled by over-embossing at the time of issue,

as requested by Mr Mitchell-Innes in his memo. of 12th.

August.
